Wednesday Roundup

ABC's "Good Morning America" cancelled a scheduled appearance by "American Idol" runner up Adam Lambert due to the fall out over the singer's racy "American Music Awards" performance. The singer did appear on "Late Night With David Letterman" and appeared on "The Early Show" this morning. Singer Donny Osmond was the big winner on last night's "Dancing With The Stars". It had been predicted that Kelly Osborne would win the coveted trophy. Rapper Eve will make a guest appearance on the Fox series, "Glee" tonight. The show will air at 9 p.m. Also, after you've stuffed yourself with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pumkin pie, check out singer Beyonce in a televised concert. The show called, "Iam Yours" will air tomorrow night at 9 p.m. Hong Kong director Jingle Ma is set to direct a live action version of the Disney tale, "Mulan" and will be working with real actors. The animated film is the tale of a young woman in anicent China who takes her father's place on the battlefield. The director stated in an interview that he will focus more on Hua Mulan's vulnerabilites and relationships. Susan Boyle, Adam Lambert, Janet Jackson, Boyz 2 Men and Birdman all have new releases in stores this week. On dvd: "Funny People" and "Angels & Demons". Tuesday Tales

Rapper Bennie Segal has released another dis track directed at rapper Jay Z called "How To Kill Jigga Man". Rapper Camron has just completed a new video and reportedly did not want to leave his vehcile. He was shot in the area where the video was shot. Singer Whitney Houston will make a guest appearance on ABC's "Dancing With The Star" tonight along with Michael Irvin and Jerry Rice. Rapper Eve will  make a guest appearance on the Fox series "Glee" tomorrow night. Singer Jennifer  Hudson will perform at a state dinner  hosted by President and Mrs Obama. It looks like singer Maya is slated to be a winner in the "Dancing With The Stars" competition. She's been performing really well on the show. It's a matter of waiting to see what the viewing audience thinks. Early reviews for the Disney film. "The Princess And The Frog" have been good. It's the first film to feature a African American princess. R&B singer Usher's next cd has been delayed. No word on a release date for the project. Monday Madness

The film "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" topped the weekend box office taking in an estimated 140.7 million dollars.  "The Blind Side" came in a distant second. The "American Music Awards" aired last night with Jay Z, Taylor Swift, Green Day, Keith Urban and the late Michael Jackson being big winners. Some of the hottest performances of the evening were from Jay Z and Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige. The most controversial performance came from "American Idol" runner up Adam Lambert. The singer simulated a sex act with both males and females on the stage with him. I'm betting money that the FCC will fine the network,just as the network was fined for the Janet Jackson incident. While I'm no prude, and found Mr Lambert a bit on the flamboyant side when he was a "American Idol" contestant, I just don't think a performance of that nature is appropiate for prime time televison. Just my opinion.

Friday Facts

Talk show host Oprah Winfrey is expected to announced on her show today that it will end in September 2011 after 25 seasons on the air. No word on whether Ms Winfrey will take the show to her own cable network. The music video for Janet Jackson's new single, "Make Me", will air on ABC tonight. The next episode of TV One's show, "Unsung" will feature Roger & Zapp. The show will air on Sunday at 9 p.m. "The American Music Awards" will air on Sunday on ABC as well. Several artist are slated to perform on the show, which will air at 8 p.m. Singer Chris Brown has completed 100 hours of community service for the Rihanna incident last February and the judge in the case says he's made progress. The sales projection of the latest 50 Cent cd are rumored to be not as good as his previous sales figures. He along with Kris Allen and Janet Jackson released new music this week. On dvd: "Star Trek" and "Bruno". In theaters this weekend: "The Twilight Saga: New Moon", "The Blind Side" and "Planet 51". On the tube: "House" on Fox, "Ghost Whisperer" on CBS, "Shrek The Third" on ABC, and "Law & Order" on NBC. Make it a weekend!

Thursday Dish

Singer Janet  Jackson sat down with "Good Morning America" co-host Robin Roberts last night to talk about the death of her brother Michael Jackson and her career. The singer looked gorgeous and was very candid about the day her brother died, her career, and her body image issues. The final episode of the TLC reality series, "Jon & Kate Plus Eight" will air on Monday at 9 p.m. In the final episode, each newly single parent takes the kids on separate outings. Jon takes the kids to a fire station, while Kate takes the kids to visit a dairy farm. They also reflect individually on what the future may hold in store. Rapper 50 Cent is set to host and perform  his latest single on BET's "106 & Park". The Lil Wayne documentary, "The Carter" has cracked the top ten on the digital movie charts after being released only 24 hours. The film, which was produced and distributed by QD3 Entertainment, has landed at number 9 on the Mainstream Movie Charts and is sitting at number 1 on the Documentary Charts. Prescious Under Fire

Recently, there has been some controversy brewing over the film "Prescious". Some in the African American community seem to feel that the film, which stars comedian/actress Monique as an abusive mother, depicts African Americans in a negative light. While I haven't seen the film yet, I can say with the utmost confidence that charaters like the ones depicted in the film do exist. And charaters like the ones that can been seen in films like, "The Best Man" exist also. It is important that we depict the wide range of human beings that can be found in the African American community. Not all Blacks are gang bangers and drug dealers. Some are doctors, lawyers and business executives as well. We are not one demential people and this has to be understood. We experience the same joy and heartache, love and rejection that others do. It's important that this is shown on the big screen. Those in our community who disagree should reconsider. Just a thought.

Monday Madness

The disaster thriller, "2012" topped the weekend box office grossing 65 million, which was more than some had projected. "A Christmas Carol", "The Men Who Stare At Goats", "Prescious", and "This Is It" round out the top five films of the week. It's semi-finals week on ABC's  "Dancing With The Stars" and host Samantha Harris has indicated that viewers will see a show unlike any the've seen previously. Be sure to tune in. 80's hip hop icon, Rakim will be releasing a new cd titled, "The Seventh Seal" soon. Atlanta rap artist, Gucci Mane has been sent back to prision for probation violation. He was sentenced to 12 months but could serve six for good behavior. Since being released the rapper has made several guest appearances on tracks with other artists, Mario and Mariah Carey, among others.
