Ladies First?
As someone who grew up on the music of female artists like Queen Latifah, Mc Lyte and Yo Yo, I must admit Iam a bit perturbed by the absence of female artists in the hip hip game today. For a period, Lil Kim and Foxy Brown were the it girls of the genre, until they both became entangled in legal trouble and all but disappeared. So So Def artist Da Brat got tangled in legal trouble as well. Murder Inc signee, Charli Baltimore never released an album. I believe one way to improve the fortunes of female artist in the male dominated field is to take a page or two out of the Salt-N-Pepa, Oaktown's 357 and Concious Daughters book of hip hip. Team up. The voices and opinions of women are relevant and must be heard. It's time for a She Movement.
