Monday Memo

The film "Cars 2" topped the weekend box office earning over $60 million dollars. "Bad Teacher", "Green Lantern", "Super 8" and "Mr Popper's Penguins" all round out the top five films of the week. The BET Awards aired last night, and the kids were great with Jaden and Willow Smith taking home the Young Stars Award, much to the delight of parents Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. Chris Brown was the night's top winner, taking home Best R&B Male Artist, while Patti LaBelle took home the Lifetime Achievement Award. Beyonce told the crowd "when anyone ask me who I want to be like, I always say Patti LaBelle". All in all, the show was another exciting affair put together by the cable network that fans won't forget.  Jermaine Jackson, older brother of the late Michael Jackson, paid tribute to his legendary sibling by honoring him at the 12th International Indian Film Academy Festivals. Jackson appeared on stage in a Michael Jackson inspired outfit complete with a red military-style jacket, V-neck white shirt, fitted black slacks and a black cummerbund with an emblazoned number "5" (representing the Jackson 5). Jackson performed a medley of his brother's hits including "Scream", "Wanna Be Starting Something" and "Can You Feel It". Saturday was the second anniversary of Jackson's death. Hip Hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs and gospel duo Mary Mary were among those honored at this year's ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. On Friday in Beverly Hills CA,  the performing rights organization honored songwriters and publishers of the most performed ASCAP songs in R&B/Hip Hop, Rap and Gospel charts. Before expecting their accolades, Mary Mary treated the audience to a rendition of their hit "Yesterday". Fantasia's "Bittersweet", Trey Songz's "Bottoms Up', and Drake's "Fancy" all received honors for writing and publishing as well as Young Jeezy's "Lose My Mind". Sean "Diddy" Combs received the Founders Award. On the tube: "Masterchef" on Fox, "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS, "The Bachelorette" on ABC and "America's Got Talent" on NBC. Happy Monday!
