Monday Memo
The film "Oblivion" topped the weekend box office, earning over $30 million dollars. "42", "The Croods", "Scary Movie 5" and "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" round out the top five films of the week. Footage of singer Beyonce performing has surfaced and it's caused some to assume that the singer was hit during the performance. In reality, she was walking through the crowd throughout the performance and fans touched her as she went along. Singer/rapper Lauryn Hill will learn her fate in a New Jersey court today after pleading guilty to tax evasion. She could receive a sentence of up to three years and pay thousands of dollars in fines. Rapper Lil Scrappy is in legal trouble as well. There's a warrant out for his arrest after he refused to submit to an additional drug test after it was proven that the first one was tampered with. No comment from the "Love & Hip Hop" star. Rapper Snoop Dogg's recent party was shut down before it was started. The West Coast rap icon was scheduled to appear at an event celebrating marijuana, but neighbors complained about noise and called police. By the time the star arrived, authorities had told everyone to leave. Rapper Soulja Boy is denying that he sent death threats to rapper Chief Keef. A message appeared on Chief Keef's Facebook page saying "the choppa's on the way". Soulja Boy even reportedly posted a phone number claiming it was Keef's, to which Keef responded that the number was no good. Here's hoping that the beef doesn't escalate. Last week at the Coachella Featival, fans of the group Draft Punk were treated to a surprise teaser video to wet their appetite, and now they get the release of the groups new single, "Get Lucky". So far the single, which features rapper/producer Pharrell Williams, has done well in the UK and France. It's currently No. 3 on the US charts, and generating a lot of conversation on social media. The single was leaked, which seems to have helped a great deal, in this case, as it's made its way to radio and music web sites. Williams says he met the duo at a Madonna party and told them he wanted to work with them. The groups full-length album, titled "Random Access Memories", will hit stores on May 21 and also features collaborations with Nile Rodgers, Georgio Moroder, DJ Falcon and Casablancas. On the tube: "Bones" on Fox, "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS, "Dancing With The Stars Live" on ABC and "The Voice" on NBC. Happy Monday!
