Friday Facts

The "American Idol" judges panel just got a bit smaller. Both rapper Nicki Minaj and singer Mariah Carey have confirmed that they will not return to the Fox talent show next season. Minaj took to Twitter to announce her departure, while Carey made a statement via Twitter through her public relations rep. Judge Randy Jackson was the first to announce he was leaving the show. The show has taken a nose dive in ratings recently, with it posting it's lowest ratings ever for a season finale earlier this month. Rumors swirled for some time about actress Jennifer Lopez replacing Carey, which only continued when Lopez performed on the finale. No word on whether judge Keith Urban will return. A Rihanna fan says she contracted herpes after trying a tube of the Mac lipstick Ri Ri Woo. The New York woman filed suit in  a New York court claiming that when she attended a Rihanna concert at the Barclays Arena, she was asked to try the lipstick brand. Two days later, her lip was irritated and swollen. Although the woman is going after the cosmetic giant and not Rihanna, she believes the suit is necessary. She says the contracting of the decease will go on if it isn't stopped. Neither Mac or Rihanna have responded to the allegations. Actor/writer/producer Tyler Perry's new Own Network show "The Have and Have Nots" has gotten off to a solid start. The show drew in over 1.9 million viewers during its first airing. Sad news for Chicago R &B fans. Singer Clarence Burke Jr, lead singer of the group the Five Stairsteps died just a day after his 64th birthday. The Five Stairsteps were widely regarded as the  First Family of Soul(before the Jackson 5), and first hit the charts with the single "You Waited Too Long". In 1970, they had their biggest hit with "Ooh Child", which has been sampled by several hip hop artists, including Tupac Shakur, who sampled the song on his hit "Keep Ya Head Up". Burke and his brothers formed the Invisible Man's Band and had a hit in 1980 with "All Night Thing". Later in the decade, the group broke up, but Burke continued recording. He will be missed. May he rest in peace. Singer Marvin Junior, lead singer of the Dells, passed away at the age of  74. The group is best known for their hit "Oh What A Night" and continued recording and performing together for 60 years before calling it quits in 2009 due to various members health concerns. According to Juniors son Marvin Junior Jr, Junior died in his Harvey Ill home surrounded by his family. No word on funeral arrangements for either artist. In theaters this weekend: "After Earth" and "Now You See Me". On the tube: "Bones" on Fox, "Undercover Boss" on CBS, "Shark Tank" on ABC and "Dateline NBC" on NBC. Make it a weekend!
