Wednesday Roundup

Singer Trey Songz and actress Lauren London are rumored to be an item currently. Althouh no confirmation nor denial has been made yet, the two were spotten together at the BET Awards. Rapper DMX may be released from prison earlier due to good behavior. Let's hope he can get his life back on track soon. Rapper Eminem's latest release "Recovery" has topped the Billboard charts, selling over 741,000 units in it's first week. It's the  highest first week tally since AC/DC's "Black Ice" sold 784,000 back in 2008. The Detroit MC's latest also tops "Relapse", his last release by 100,000 units. Drake's "Thank Me Later" dropped to number two  on the charts with 157,000 units sold in it's second week of release. Meanwhile, the Roots' "How I Got Over" ranks at number six, selling 51,000 units. If you've missed the CBS reality show "Big Brother", the wait is over. The show will air for the summer season on July 8. There's sure to be more drama and shocking surprises for viewers. Tune in. The summer movie season keeps humming along with actor Leonardo DiCaprio releasing a film soon. We'll see how the remainder of the summer movie season pans out. Some films have done well, while others have not lived up to expectations. Tuesday Tales

Singer Rihanna has cancelled tour dates in Arizona, Texas and Washington. It was speculated that the singer cancelled the Arizona date in protest of the state's recent imigration law, but that has been neither confirmed nor denied. Singer Mariah Carey has been hit with a 38K lawsuit by Dr Cindy Bressler, who claims the singer only paid 8,000 of a 38,000 bill in which Dr Bressler cared for Carey's Jack Russel puppies. Dr Bressler stated that she provided services for the dogs while Carey was in Los Angeles promoting the film "Precious". Bressler's attorney also stated that the doctor also delivered one of the pups while Ms Carey was away last year. No comment as of yet from Carey's camp on the suit. According to Hollywood.com attendance at theaters is down 4% from last year, despite a strong start by Avatar, directed by James Cameron. Ticket sales are up 2% because IMX and 3-D films have pushed ticket prices up to $7.95. The industry has remained profitable due to a few films that have either met or exceeded expectations. "Robin Hood" and cartoons such as "Toy Story 3" and "Shrek Forever After" proved there were some entries worth catching at the local cineplex. Let see what the rest of the summer season has in store. Be sure to catch "Project Runway" with host Heidi Klum when it airs tonight on Lifetime. Klum says each episode will be 90 minutes in length each week. That means 30 minutes more drama. Monday Memo

"Toy Story 3" topped the weekend box office for the third week in a row, raking in 59 million dollars in reciepts. "Grown Ups", Knight and Day", "The Karate Kid" and "The A Team" round out the top five films of the week. The BET Awards aired last night and the show was filled with performances from A list stars such as Alicia Keys, Usher, Diddy and Dirty Money, Nicki Minaj and Drake. Drake, Nicki Minaj and Alicia Keys were also big award winners. Singer John Legend received the Humanitary Award and Prince received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Tributes to Prince as well as Michael Jackson and Teddy Pendergrass were performed as well. Awards show host Queen Latifah performed skits as the various charaters she's played in her many films. All in all, the show was a well put together and exciting event that many probably won't soon forget. Actor Steve Carell has stated that he may leave the hit show "The Office" after the show's seventh season ends. He says he wants the fufill his contract and then spend more time with his family. Be sure to catch "Twilight: The Eclipse" when it hits your local cineplex. It's the latest in the hit film franchise and is sure to be worthy every dollar spent. Thursday Dish

Rock legend Little Richard's "Tuitty Fruitty" along with late rapper Tupac Shakur's "Dear Mama" will both be archived in the Library of Congress. Shakur will be only the third hip hop artist behind Public Enemy and Grandmaster Flash to receive the honor. Congradulations to both artists. ABC has a new summer series airing, titled "Rookie Blue". While initial reviews of the series have not been glowing, check the show out and draw your own conclusion. The show premieres tonight on ABC at 9:00 P.M. If you're interested in adding a dose of silliness to your summer fun, check out ABC's "Wipeout". The show, for those who haven't had an opportunity to see it, showcases contestants who participate in various stunts. As "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" descends on theaters June 30, the stars talked the latest in the film franchise with Entertainment Weekly magazine and appear on it's cover. Be sure to pick it up at a newsstand near you. Tomorrow will mark the first anniversary of singer Michael Jackson's death and CBS's "The Early Show" has a tribute planned that will take place from London. One hour of the morning news show will be dedicated to one of the biggest pop icons the world over. Jermaine Jackson, the iconic figure's older brother, will conduct an interview with CNN's Larry King live from the star's grave site. Rapper Fat Joe is dening that he was involved in the sexual assault of a woman in his limosuine after a concert in Wisconsin. Anthony Hamilton and Jaheim will appear at the Budwieser Superfest. The show should be a fabulous one for all who attend. The numbers are finally in. Although he didn't sell 500k, the highly anticipated debut album of rapper Drake "Thank Me Later" sold an impressive 446,000 units, landing the disk at the top spot on Billboard's 200 chart. The album now stands as the top selling rap album of the year to date and third fast selling disk overall. Be sure to catch the Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz film "Knight and Day" when it hits theaters. This is a action packed film that is not to be missed. It has action, comedy and eveything in between. Everthing a movie goer could want. Fans of the hit show "Army Wives" will be happy to know that Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, will appear on an upcoming episode of the series. She will appear as herself raising awareness of the contributions of U.S men and women and their families. No word on when the episode will air. Tuesday Tales

Rapper Fat Joe was detained by Wisconsin authorities after an unindentified female claimed that she was sexually assaulted by the rapper and his entourage after a concert on Sunday. The woman claimed she traveled back to the hotel with Fat Joe and his entourage after his performance at the Orpheum Theater in Madison that night. The woman claims she was assaulted during the ride. According to sources close to the investigation, the rapper was briefly detained for questioning, but was not arrested or charged with any crime. He was released Monday morning. There has been no comment from the rapper or his representatives on the matter. Rapper Jay Z and Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz have settled their lawsuit over naming rights of the 40/40 Club. You'll recall that earlier this year Hova took the slugger to court for copyright infringment after he opened his own 40/40 Club in the Dominican Republic. Ortiz has agreed to rename his 40/40 Club and remove it's website. Actor Michael Keaton recently told USA Today how much more complicated it was to play Ken in the box office hit "Toy Story 3". He says he actually understood where Ken was coming from. Catch the film at your local ciniplex. "American Idol" runnerup David Archuleta, along with Gladys Kngiht, will perform at the annual July 4 holiday concert in Washington. Monday Memo

"Toy Story 3" topped the weekend box office earning over 109 million dollars. "The Karate Kid", "The A Team", "Get Him to the Greek" and "Shrek Forever After" round out the top five films of the week. A scheduled performance in New York City by rapper 50 Cent was cancelled due to low ticket sales.  A surprise performance by rapper Jay Z,  which was to take place on top of the marquee at the Ed Sullivan Theater today, was cancelled due to the chaos at rapper Drake's show earlier in the week. The performance was to take place during "The Late Show With David Letterman" in the middle of rush hour in Manhattan. A spokeswoman stated that there was discussion of a show and it was decided that no permit would be given. A BET Awards pre-show and it's line up of stars has been announced. N.E.R.D. and Soulja Boy will take the stage at the  pre-show, which is sure to get viewers excited and ready for the main event. Other performers on the show include: SoSo Def recording artist Dondria performing with CEO Jermaine Dupri, Roscoe Dash, Cali Swag and Grand Hustle's newest signee B.o.B. The show will air on Sunday June 27, at 6:00 P.M. on BET. Emmy award time will arrive soon, and it's anyone's guest who will come away a big winner. One contender is Chandra Wilson of "Gey's Anatomy". The Season finale of the series was heartwretching. Friday Facts

Rapper Jay Z has reportedly scrapped plans to release his autobiography saying too much has been revealed. Here's hoping Hova changes is mind soon. Alicia Keys has been added to the list of performers on the BET Awards broadcast. T-Pain, Usher and Eminem have been added to the line up as well, as the show is sure to be an affair viewers won't soon forget. For those unaware, the latest installment in the "Toy Story" franchise will bring Tom Hanks and Tim Allen together again and the film is sure to keep viewers young and old alike in stitches. Be sure to catch it when it hits your local ciniplex.  Actresses Betty White and Valerie Bertinelli brought cable network TV Land record viewership with "Hot in Cleveland" The show attracted 4.75 million viewers and posted triple digit gains on the night across all demographics. It was the most watched program in the network's history. In more televison news, rap crew Wu Tang Clan is slated to do it's own reality show. No word on which network will air the show and when it will premiere. In theaters this weekend: "Toy Story 3" and "Jonah Hex". Those wanting a copy of Sean "Diddy" Combs next CD will have to wait until September 20 to get it. The release date of the disk has been pushed back from June 28, one day after the 2010 BET Awards, where he will perform with his Dirty Money crew. Three singles have been released from the project, all with visuals. The latest single is "Hello, Good Morning" featuring T.I. and Rick Ross. Nick Minaj, who is rumored to be one of his clients under his Bad Boy Management umbrella, will appear on the remix for the single, which will be released in the coming weeks. No reasons for the push back have been given, although several singles have been leaked prematurely. A recent appearance by rapper Drake had to be cancelled due to the overwhelming response of fans. Organizers expected 10,000 to show up but 20,000 actually showed for the event. "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi says the replacement for Simon Cowell on the Fox hit shouldn't try to be a carbon copy of the former judge. She says jazz great Harry Connick Jr would make a great replacement. Only time will tell. It appears that the cable networks are tweaking their brands and expanding their primetime lineups. One example would be the channel Discovery Kids becoming a hub in October under a partnership deal with toy maker Hasbro.  Yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of the Alfred Hitchcock classic "Psycho". Singer Brandy is currently working with brother Ray J on a sitcom. While there's no word on a title, other cast members and when shooting will begin, it will be great to see the talented brother and sister on the screen together again. Fans will recall the last time the two worked together was on the sitcom "Moesha" a few years ago.  In more televison news, the sitcom "Hot in Cleveland" starring Betty White, airs tonight at 10:00 P.M. on TV Land. White plays the wisecracking caretaker of a house leased by one of three single friends. Be sure to tune in tonight. An independent attorney appointed to oversee the property and cremation of late actor Gary Coleman stated that there will be no funeral for the late former child star. A Utah judge named Robert Jeffs the special administrator of Coleman's estate after a dispute between the star's ex-wife and ex-girlfriend. The attorney also stated that a 2005 will stated there is to be no funeral sevices.  Coleman died on May 28 after suffering a brain hemorrhage at his home 55 miles South of Salt Lake City. Stay tuned for more. Rapper Jay Z will appear on the cover of the next issue of Rolling Stone magazine. The rapper made some not so kind remarks regarding rapper LL Cool J. Pick up a copy on newstands soon. Rapper Ludacris has been added to the list of performers at the 2010 BET Awards.  The three time Grammy winner will take the stage along with Diddy and Dirty Money, Nicki Minaj, Drake, T.I., Rick Ross and Kanye West.  Prince will receive the life time achievement award on the show as well. Tuesday Tales

Actress A.J. Cook has been dropped from the hit show "Criminal Minds". Producers for the show say they will not pick up the actress's contract for next season. The coroner's report ruled actor Gary Coleman's death an accident from a fall. The actor fell in his Utah home and was rushed to a hospital where he later died. A battled has now begun for the actor's remains, but it remains to be seen who will eventually get the body. Several wills have surfaced and all concered have to wait on the decison of a judge. Stay tuned. There seems to be a hip  hop beef brewing between Lil Kim and Nicki Minaj. Lil Kim recently commented to a blogger that she believes Minaj is acting as though what she's doing is something new and has forgotten who paved the way. I say, can't the ladies just get along?  Congradulations to singer Brian McKnight. He recently became a father for the third time. He has two sons from a previous marriage. As mentioned previously, several summer series have premiered and among the most exciting of the lot is Fox's "Good Guys". The show is fun and action packed with a touch of humor added. Weekend Roundup

"The Karate Kid" became box office champ over the weekend, earning 56 million dollars. "The A Team", "Shrek Forever After", "Get Him to the Greek" and "Killers" round out the top five films of the week. Hollywood took over Broadway for Sunday's Tony Awards. Denzel Washington and Catherine Zeta Jones were big winners at the show. Rapper Kid Cudi was arrested in New York City for criminal mischief and possession of a controlled substanced. The substance is believed to be marijuana. He was taken into custody after a public disturbance with an unidentified woman in Manhattan's Chelesa district. Representatives for the NYPD have provided no further information regarding the matter. Representatives for Kid Cudi's management and record label have not commented on the matter. According to authorities, the rapper is currently awaiting an arraignment from a judge and his bail has not yet been set. Here's hoping the matter is settled soon and the rapper has no further runins with the law. Artists should understand the repsonsibility that goes along with success and remember big brother is always watching. Rapper Big Boi of Outkast has stated that his record label didn't want partner Andre 3000 on his solo album. The rapper is signed as a solo artist to Def Jam Records, while Outkast as a group, is signed to Jive Records. Singer R Kelly will perform a song for the 2010 World Cup called "A Sign Of A Victory". The singer/songwriter is hoping the song will have the same uplifting message as his 1996 single "I Believe I Can Fly". Be sure to catch the Tony Awards on CBS this Sunday. It will be Broadway's biggest night, and the show is sure to be an exciting one. Fans of the "Twilight" saga will be happy to know that two more films will be shot for the franchise. The first film has the original cast returing and will be released on November 18, 2011. Production is slated to begin this fall. Director Bill Condon will direct both films. With summer in full swing, the networks have aired quite a few summer shows to keep viewers tuned in. It remains to be seen which shows have made the grade and which ones will bite the dust fairly quickly. So far, Fox's "Good Guys" appears to be an instant hit with fans. As for others, we'll have to wait and see. In theaters this weekend: "The Karate Kid" and "The A Team". Thursday Dish

Just when it looked like it wouldn't happen, it has been confirmed that Lauryn Hill will be on the Rock The Bells Tour after all. The tour starts August 21 and will also feature Snoop Dog, A Tribe Called Quest, Wu Tang Clan, KRS-One and DJ Premier, among others. The tour begins on August 21 in San Bernardino CA. Rapper Kanye West will perform at the BET Awards on June 27. This will be the rapper/producer's first public appearance since the Taylor Swift episode a year ago. T.I. will perform on the show as well. It will be his first awards show appearance since being arrested just hours before the 2008 BET Awards for purchasing unregistered firearms. Diddy's Dirty Money crew, Drake, Nicki Minaj and Trey Songz are also slated to appear on the show as well. There seems to be a 70's and 80's revival going in Hollywood. This weekend the remake of the 1984 classic "The Karate Kid" will go head to head with "The A Team", the film version of the action series which ran from 1983 to 1987. It seems studios take the bait due to brand name recognition. We'll see which studio recoups it's dollars at the box office. While the summer will be filled with televison reruns, the networks have quite a few new shows prepared come fall. It remains to be seen which ones will be hits. Sara Stokes from Sean "Diddy" Comb's "Making The Band" has filed a lawsuit against T-Pain for unpaid royalties. The singer/songwriter claims T-Pain distributed two songs she wrote to Jennifer Hudson without her permission or credit. Ms Stokes's Sarmony Entertainment is taking T-Pain's Nappy Boy Production/Nappy Boy Publishing to court for all the revenue generated from the songs, including attorney fees. "What's Wrong (Go Away)" is one of the songs in question. T-Pain's reps have yet to comment on the matter. Rapper Ja Rule has a court date as well. The rapper born Jeffrey Atkins, has a August 18 court date for a gun possession charge from July, 2007. The rapper pleaded not guilty at the time to a weapons possession charge when authorities found a loaded semiautomatic pistol in a vehicle the rapper was riding in after attending a concert. Atkins, who is filming a movie, was granted permission to skip Tuesday's hearing due to prior committments in San Jose California. Sad news out of the world of R&B. Marvin Isley, the youngest member and bassist for the legendary Isley Brothers, died of complications from diabetes. He was 56. He, like the rest of his brothers, grew up in Cincinnati OH and joined the group in the late sixties. He provided the bass lines on songs like "That Lady", "Fight The Power" and "For The Love Of You". He will be missed and may he rest in peace. Matthew Knowles, manager and father of singer Beyonce Knowles, has squashed the recent rumors of  a Destiny's Child reunion by saying there will be no reunion. Singer Chris Brown's United Kingdom tour has been postponed. The singer was scheduled to perform in London, Manchester, Birmingham and the Scottish city of Glasgow, but the British government's Home Office stated he had been refused a visa due to his past criminal record. Fans will recall the singer was sentenced to five years probation and six months community service for beating his ex-girlfriend, singer Rihanna. The Home Office stated Brown applied for his visa last week and should have been notified of it's refusal on Monday. Concert promoter, SJM stated that Brown's tour had been postponed "due to unforeseen circumstances". Former Kiss lead guitarist Ace Frehley will release a memoir detailing his time in the legendary heavy metal band. Gallery Books, a imprint of Simon & Schuster, announced that Frehley is working on "No Regrets" and plans to release the book in the summer of 2011. Be sure to pick up the latest issue of the Source magazine, featuring Rick Ross on one cover and Ludacris on the second cover. Both MC's discuss their careers and what's next for them both. Fans will recall that the singer pulled out of the project, causing rumors to swirl that she is expecting. It's been confirmed, as mentioned previously, that she is expecting twins. Singer Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon are reportedly expecting twins. No word on a due date. Singer Whitney Houston will reportedly star in a film tentatively titled "Love Story". Her love interest in the film will be none other than ex-husband Bobby Brown. Rapper Lil Kim reportedly took a few swipes at rapper Nicki Minaj at a recent concert. The petite rapper took the stage in a pink wig and, according to sources, made some comments that have made some think she was referring to Minaj. Stay tuned. "American Idol" winner Lee DeWyze is scheduled to sing the national anthem at game 2 of the NBA finals on Sunday. Still no word on when his first cd will be released. Be sure to catch the MTV Movie Awards this Sunday. Actress Sandra Bullock is scheduled to make her first public appearance since splitting with husband Jesse James. The show should be exciting to watch. Rapper Drake says he's not concerned about his highly anticipated debut cd being leaked over the internet. He seems to feel it's par for the course. With five nominations under her belt, rapper Nicki Minaj will perform at the 2010 BET Awards. This comes at a time when women in hip hop are hard to find anywhere. Her performance is sure to be one of many highlights of the show. The show will air on Sunday, June 27 on BET at 8:00 p.m. It's been confirmed that singer Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon are expecting. Fans will recall that the singer recently pulled out of an upcoming Tyler Perry film. Sad news out of Hollywood. Actress Rue McClanahan, best known for her role as Blanche Devereaux on NBC's "Golden Girls" died today. She was 76. She began her career performing off Broadway and in regional theater. Her breakthrough came on the 70's series "Maude" where she played Beatrice Arthur's best friend Vivian. She also had big screen roles on "Starship Troopers" and "Out To Sea". It was the role on "The Golden Girls", a show about four mature, single women living together in Miami that she will be best remembered. She will be missed. May she rest in peace. Wednesday Roundup

Director Antoine Fugua has confirmed that a biopic on the late Tupac Shakur is in the works. Shooting is scheduled to begin in September. Actor Terrance Howard has confirmed that he is being considered for a biopic on the late Marvin Gaye, but no word on a shoot date has been given. Rapper T.I responded to the backlash from his recent appearance at Woodland Hills Middle School in Henry County, GA, by saying that parents who were concerned about the Grand Hustle general making an appearance there, should have been more concerned with the message. The rapper is putting the finishing touches on his next cd, titled, "King Uncaged", which is slated for a August 17 release date on Grand Hustle/Atlantic Records. In more music news, it appears that downloads from the Fox hit, "Glee" are outperforming downloads from "American Idol" top finalists, Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox. DeWyze's first single, a cover of U2's "A Beautiful Day" moved over 100,000 copies, according to Sound Scan's preliminary information. Here's hoping the two catch up soon. Finally, as with any Wednesday during the summer season, the networks have a line up filled with reruns. Much better are the ABC offerings, back to back episodes of "The Middle". Tuesday Tales

"Shrek Forever After" was the box office champ again, taking in over 43 million dollars over the holiday weekend. "Sex and the City 2", "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time", "Iron Man 2" and "Robin Hood" round out the top five films of the week. Singer Beyonce is being sued by a Hollywood Hills resident for traspassing during a video shoot. Philip Markowitz, who filed the suit, claims Beyonce and her film crew invaded his privacy and provoked unecessary noise and crowds. He is seeking 25,000 in damages. The singer has not responded to the suit. Be sure to catch the top ten "American Idol" finalist when they hit the concert trail this summer. The tour starts in July and will end in September. Sad news out of Hollywood. Actor/director Dennis Hopper died after a battle with prostate cancer. He was 74. He appeared in over 100 films during his career, but is best remembered for his role in the film "Easy Rider". He also went on to direct the films "Speed" and "Day Of The Dead". He will be missed. His contributions to American film will live on. May he rest in peace.
