Tuesday Tales

Sad news from the world of music. Legendary bluesman Pinetop Perkins died of cardiac arrest at his home in Austin TX. He was 97. He began his career playing piano with Muddy Waters. He also performed with Sonny Boy Williamson and slide guitarist Robert Nighthawk. He also toured with rock pioneer Ike Turner in the 1950's. Perkins' skill came not from any formal training, but from a love for a musical form that arose from the South's plantation system. Perkins won a Grammy for best traditional blues album "Joined At The Hip: Pinetop Perkins And Willie "Big Eyes"  Smith". That win made Perkins the oldest Grammy winner, edging out George Burns, who was 95 when he won the spoken category for "Gracie: A Love Story". His manager, Patricia Morgan, stated that funeral arrangements are pending in Austin and a gravesite service would be held near Clarksdale MS, where he wanted to be buried.  Although it seems the state of female rappers in hip hop is on life support, Tampa born female rapper Dominique Young Unique is set to take the industry by storm. She has done several showcases and has released a  mixtape "Glamorous Touch". She appears to have a bright future a head of her. Young Money artist Drake explained in an interview the tweet he posted regarding the recent passing of singer Nate Dogg. He used a line in the hit "21 Questions", which Nate Dogg performed with rapper 50 Cent. Drake stated he posted the tweet as soon as he heard the news and that it's sad we lost him. He also stated that Nate Dogg contributed some phenomenal music and it's important to remember what he's done. The cast of ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" should all be over their jitters now that the first episode of the new season is in the can. The stars will return on March 28 for another round of competition before facing the season's first elimination the following day.  Fox's "American Idol" returns for another round of competition tomorrow as well. Only time will tell how well the top contestants do. On DVD: "The Tourist" and "Yogi Bear". On the tube: "Glee" on Fox, "NCIS" on CBS, "No Ordinary Family" on ABC and "Biggest Loser: Couples" on NBC. Happy Tuesday!
