Monday Memo
The film "The Grey" topped the weekend box office earning over $20 million dollars. "Underworld: Awakening", "One For The Money", "Red Tails" and "Man On A Ledge" round out the top five films of the week. Although it was snubbed at this years Academy Awards, the documentary about the live and music of legendary rap group A Tribe Called Quest "Beats, Rhyme and Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest" snagged the Best Documentary award at the Producers Guild Awards. Michael Rapaport produced the film about the New York MCs. Although the PGAs is a producer-focused awards show which predicts which films will be nominated and win Oscars, the film wasn't nominated in the documentary categories at the renowned awards show. The Academy Awards will air later this month. Young Money rapper Corey Gunz was arrested over the weekend for possession of a firearm. According to MTV News, the rapper was taken into custody by NYPD on Saturday afternoon. The state of New York has strict gun laws, so it's certain the rhyme slinger may have to serve some time. There's no word on a court date as of yet. Legendary soul singer Etta James was laid to rest on Saturday. In a moving ceremony, Rev Al Sharpton gave the eulogy. The ceremony was attended by family and celebrity friends. Singers Stevie Wonder and Christina Aguliera performed at the ceremony. Etta James will long be remembered as a trailblazer who opened doors for many. Be sure to tune in this week to Fox's "American Idol" as the auditions continue. So far, there's been a few hits and misses and things are sure to heat up as the season wears on. On the tube: "House" on Fox, "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS, "The Bachelor" on ABC and "Who's Still Standing?" on NBC. Happy Monday!
