Monday Memo
Detective Sherlock Holmes has emerged as the box office champ. The film "Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows" topped the weekend box office earning over $40 million dollars. "Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked", "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol", "New Years Eve" and "The Sitter" round out the top five films of the week. With rumors of possible martial problems between Hollywood power couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith looming, reportedly the problems between the two may not be what some may think. The problems seem to stem from how to handle the careers of son Jaden and daughter Willow. It seems dad Will would like the two to follow in dad's footsteps, while mom Jada would like them to live as normal a life as possible. Although no confirmations or denials have come from the Smith camp regarding the rumors, at any rate here's hoping things are worked out soon. What's best for the children should be top priority over everything else. Although he's made no bones about his fondness for marijuana, rapper Snoop Dogg's smoking appears to have landed him in hot water over seas. Middle Eastern concert promoter Roger Kalaouz is considering suing the legendary West Coast rapper for 280,000, claiming that Snoop's marijuana smoking at a 2009 concert in Beirut has landed him in hot water with Lebanese authorities. The activity reportedly took place at a crowded afterparty and has been immortalized on film in a scene from the video for Snoop's latest single "That's Tha Homie". Kalaouz says police in Lebanon have used the incident to crack down on him and his company, leaving his reputation severely damaged, according to website TMZ. Kalaouz also claims in his lawsuit to have been promised a position as Snoop's exclusive booker for the Middle East, but the rapper and his people have failed to make good on their promise. The hip hop superstar is currently touring with rap rookie Wiz Khalifa on the High School Tour as they promote the soundtrack to their upcoming film "Mac & Devin Go To High School". There's no word on a court date or settlement. Legendary R&B singer Etta James, best known for the the 1961 hit "At Last" is terminally ill, according to her doctors at a Riverside CA hospital. Born Jamesetta Hawkins in Los Angeles in 1938, she began her career singing gospel and formed her first doo-wop group at at 14. She signed with Chicago label Chess Records and had her first top ten hit with "All I Could Do Was Cry". While she battled heroin addiction for many years, she continued to record and perform for four decades. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. She received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2003. Singer Beyonce Knowles portrayed the singer in the film Cadillac Records. The 73-year-old singer has been battling chronic leukemia for years, but now her doctors say her leukemia has been diagnosed incurable and ask for prayers. According to court documents, she has also been suffering from dementia and kidney failure. Her $1 million estate is in probate as her son Donto James fights for a conservator other than James husband of 42 years, Artis Mills. Here's hoping the matter is settled soon. Busta Rhymes is the newest signee to Young Money/Cash Money Records. During a recent interview on the set of the video for his new single "Why Stop Now", the rapper explained that he felt the signing made sense because they know how to nurture the music and let artist be artist. After being quiet for some time, he returned in 2011 with several scene stealing cameos on hits such as Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now", Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter 4" and the BET Hip Hop Awards cypher. YMCM signing is icing on the cake. He also revealed that the label's success with such acts as Drake, Nicki Minaj and Tyga was also a factor in his decision to sign. No word on when an album will be released. On the tube: "Terra Nova" on Fox, "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS, "Kung Fu Panda Holiday Special" on ABC and "Who's Still Standing?" on NBC. Happy Monday!
