Monday Memo
The film "Zero Dark Thirty" topped the weekend box office earning over $24 million dollars. "A Haunted House", "Gangster Squad", "Django Unchained" and "Les Miserables" round out the top five films of the week. According to web site TMZ, legendary singer Stevie Wonder has been hit with a tax lien by the IRS for $40 is owes the government agency. No word on what his property is worth and there's been no comment from the singer. Rapper/producer Jermaine Dupri stopped foreclosure on his home for the second time in four months. He's reported paid the IRS $193,000, but still owes them $410,000. Dupri says that figure is wrong, so only time will tell how much the remainder of his payment will be. The Golden Globe awards aired last night and "Argo" and "Les Miserables" were big winners. In addition, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler kept the audience in stitches with their antics. The one moment everyone is still talking about is when actress Jodi Foster gave a rambling speech about coming out. Fey and Poehler later said they were going out with her. A bit was done on Ben Afleck films, after which actress/singer Jennifer Lopez took the stage. Although it won't air for a few weeks, the Bet Honors awards took place as well. Singer Chaka Khan and actor Anthony Anderson were among the attendees at the event. Rapper Nas gave hip hop fans a scare recently. The Queensbridge MC has sent to a New York City hospital after suffering some dizziness. It turns out he was suffering from vertigo and spent time under a doctor's care. He had to cancel a scheduled appearance on "Live With Kelly & Michael" due to the illness. The rapper took to Twitter to let fans know he's doing better and will make up the missed appearance. He just wrapped up a tour with Lauren Hill, which began on New Year's Eve and ended with a hometown show at Radio City Music Hall. Rapper T.I. recently made his feelings known on the hotly debated gun control issue. He says taking guns away from innocent citizens will leave them unable to protect themselves from criminals. Rapper French Montana stopped by Angie Martinez' morning show to open about his Twitter feud with rapper 50 Cent. Montana says there's no problem between the two rappers. 50 may have read a Complex magazine interview that Montana did and misinterpreted something said. 50 Cent a tweet out and Montana responded. However, Montana made it clear he doesn't want to get bogged down in a contest with his elder. He says he's had a great year and wants to keep going. What looked to be singer Beyonce's 2013 comeback has turned out to be a Destiny's Child reunion. After news broke that the group would be releasing their first single in eight years, US Weekly now reports that Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams will join Beyonce at the Superbowl Halftime Show in February. Rowland and Williams will join Beyonce after a solo segment to perform a medley of the group's hits. The DC portion of the show will include the nationwide debut of the single "Nuclear", the trio's first song in eight years. That's not all the music fans can expect. After Rowland and Williams leave the stage, Beyonce will perform a song from an upcoming solo album. "Love Songs", Destiny's Child's compilation, which will include "Nuclear", will hit stores January 22. On the tube: "Bones" on Fox, "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS, "The Bachelor" on ABC and "The Biggest Loser" on NBC. Happy Monday!
