Monday Memo

The film "Despicable Me 2" topped the weekend box office once again, earning over $44 million dollars. "Grown Ups 2", "Pacific Rim", "The Heat" and "The Lone Ranger" round out the top five films of the week. Like many in America, singer BeyoncĂ© was stunned upon hearing the verdict in the Trayvon Martin trial. The pop star held a moment of silence for the slain teen during an encore of the Nashville leg of her Mrs. Carter World Tour, followed by renditions of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" and her own hit "Halo". The verdict, acquitting George Zimmerman of all charges relating to the death of the 17-year-old, was handed down just before 10 p.m. EST on Saturday, during BeyoncĂ©'s show. "I would like to have a moment of silence for Trayvon", the singer said upon hearing the verdict, according to the Associated Press. The superstar  joined a tidal wave of emotion from stars, ranging from despondence to outrage, over the decision, made by the jury to find Zimmerman not guilty. The trial, which began on June 10, ended with closing arguments on Friday. The jury of six women, all mothers, deliberated just over 24 hours before reaching their verdict. Rapper Lil Reese, aka Tavares Taylor, was arrested on Saturday for possession of marijuana and violating his bail bond, according to the Chicago Tribune. Police were on patrol in an area of Englewood California, an area known for gang conflicts, when they spotted Taylor standing on the side walk with persons known as gang members. Police report seeing Taylor drop four grams of the drug on the ground when he saw them approaching. A search found that he had $2,000 in cash on him. The reporting office later wrote that Taylor admitted to having the drugs. Taylor was denied $10,000 bail. This makes the Glory Boyz Entertainment/Def Jam signee's third run in with the law. There was a warrant out for his arrest on criminal trespassing charges after he was caught sleeping in a car in Champaign County, Ill, back in April. Also, that same month, he was stopped in Chicago and charged with not signaling, driving without a license and driving without insurance. Last year, he was tried in the court of public opinion when an old video of him beating a woman went viral. According to a pic on his Twitter, he may have been in Englewood to shoot a video. The pic was linked to the note, "Cumin soon. /FreeTheGuyz"...#300. On the tube: "Raising Hope" on Fox, "How I Met Your Mother"on CBS, "The Bachelorette" on ABC and "American Ninja Warrior" on NBC. Happy Monday!
