Monday Memo
The film "Frozen" topped the weekend box office earning over $31 million. "Out of the Furnace", "Thor: The Dark World" and "Delivery Man" round out the top five films of the week. The Grammy awards nominations were announced and rapper Jay Z topped the list with nine nominations. Kendrick Lamar, Mackelmore & Ryan Lewis, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams all received seven nominations each. Also grabbing multiple nods were Rihanna, Taymar Braxton, Fantasia, Miguel and Robin Thicke, all of whom received three nominations. Rappers T.I. and Kanye West each received two. Fans can see who wins when the Grammy awards air on Jan. 26. Singer/reality star K. Michelle probably won't attend the ceremony. She feels snubbed by the selection committee and even took to Twitter to let her feelings regarding the matter be known tweeting, "I guess a strong Black girl who speaks her mind is too much". We'll see what happens next year. Rapper Drake sees Strawberry Mansion High School in Philadelphia. Upon seeing a report anchored by Diane Sawyer as part of ABC's "Made In America" series, the Toronto rapper has decided to build a recording studio on the school's campus. In addition to struggling with budget cuts, the school has also had four principles in four years and more than 10 violent incidents per 100 students per year. Last year, assistant superintendent in the district, Linda Cliatt-Wayman, stepped up to the job as principle and the crime rate has decreased and the graduation rate has doubled to more than half the graduating class. Drake, seeing the students dedication, has also included free tickets and transportation to his "Would You Like A Tour" show at the Wells Fargo Center on Dec. 18. On the tube: "Almost Human" on Fox, "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS, "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" on ABC and "The Voice" on NBC. Happy Monday!
