Monday Memo
The film "Identity Thief" topped the weekend box office, earning over $36 million. "Warm Bodies", "Side Effects", "Silver Linings Playbook" and "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" round out the top five films of the week. The 55th Annual Grammies aired last night, and there were a few hits and misses during the ceremony. Country singer Taylor Swift opened the show with a performance one can only call lackluster. Among the highlights of last nights show were performances by Kelly Clarkson, Maroon 5 and Alicia Keys and Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Sting and Ziggy and Damien Marley who paid tribute to the late Bob Marley. Singer Justin Timberlake surprised fans by summoning Jay Z for a performance of their hit "Suit & Tie", to the delight of the crowd. Frank Ocean, Miguel, Rihanna and Jay Z and Kanye West were among the winners, with Ocean beating out Miguel for Best Adult Contemporary Album and also winning for Best Rap Collaboration. Rihanna won Best Long Form Video for "We Found Love". Jay Z and Kanye West also won for "N***** In Paris", while Usher won for his hit "Climax". Among the best dressed at the ceremony were Kelly Rowland, Kelly Clarkson and Jay Z. Among the worse dressed include singer/songwriter The Dream. Some did violate the Grammy dress code. Among them, Jennifer Lopez who showed plenty of leg while presenting with rapper Pit Bull. Singer Katy Perry showed off her two best friends while presenting as well. Only time will tell what those who run the ceremony have to say about the dress code violations. Singer Frank Ocean received a standing ovation while accepting an award, but singer Chris Brown was the only audience member who didn't stand. In light of the fact that the two got into a brawl at a Los Angeles recording studio, it's not surprising. Host LL Cool J brought the show to a close along with Chuck D and Travis Barker. All in all, another Grammy ceremony has wrapped up and it'll be interesting to see what happens next year. In other Chris Brown news, the singer has involved in a car crash while evading the paparazzi. He was on his way to a charity event when he was approached by two vehicles. Reportedly two individuals got out of the other vehicle and began taking pictures. He later turned down an alley only to be trapped by two other cars and ended up crashing into a wall. While there's no word of whether a lawsuit will be filed, it couldn't have come at a worse time. Brown appeared in court to answer charges he lied about his community service hours and has another hearing scheduled for April 5. Singer Marques Houston has filed a restraining order against Raz B saying he fears for his life. Fans will recall there were a lot of accusations leveled at Houston and B2K manager Chris Stokes some time back, and only time will tell where things will go from here. On the tube: "Bones" on Fox, "How I Met Your Mother" on CBS, "The Bachelor" on ABC and "The Biggest Loser" on NBC. Happy Monday!
